The Performing Arts at Kennedy Middle School
We are proud to offer band to our students, grades 6-8. Our band ensembles include Beginning band, Intermediate band, and Advanced band. Each of our performing ensembles have multiple opportunities to perform, both here at our school and abroad. We look forward to having you contribute to the group’s success!
Meet our Director!
Tyler Boorman is director of Bands and Choirs at Kennedy Middle School. He received his bachelor and masters degrees in music education from the University of Oregon. Recently, Tyler was a featured conductor at Northwest Band Camps at Rockaway Beach, OR. He has acted as guest conductor for several local schools during his time at Kennedy.
A self-described “professional student,” Tyler actively seeks out guest artists to come to Kennedy, giving both the students and himself further opportunities to learn from professionals in the field. In addition to teaching, he has performed on trumpet with local groups such as the Eugene Symphonic Band and Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra.

What to ExpectAs members of the performing arts program at Kennedy, students are held to very high standards. Our program is known for providing a well-rounded education in music as well as offering more performance opportunities. Students in performing ensembles have fun but work very hard for the success they achieve. We are actively working with the high school program to create the feel of a seven year program for our music students to reach their full potential. Instruments and Books - Anyone can participate!
Students may rent instruments from the school for a non-refundable fee of $50.00 for the year. Instruments are limited and are first come, first serve. Other options include renting from a local music store or providing your own instrument. If you are renting a school instrument, a rental agreement form and the non-refundable fee must be provided before receiving an instrument. Checks should be made payable to Kennedy Middle School. This helps off-set the cost of repair and upkeep on our instruments.
Students in need of financial assistance for instrument rentals should contact the school office at 541.790.5500. Instrument accessories must be purchased separately and are NOT included in the maintenance fee. The school has limited accessories for students with financial need.
Donations and Volunteering
If you are interested in donating to the program at Kennedy, please contact the school office at 541.790.5500 or e-mail the director directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are interested in donating a specific item such as an instrument or classroom supplies, please contact our director, Tyler Boorman. We have a growing wish list!
Opportunities for volunteering will occur throughout the year. The director will email out requests for volunteers as needed.
Instruments Needed: Kennedy Band members are in need of your instruments. If you would like to donate an instrument to the Kennedy Band program, we will write you a tax donation receipt and we’d be forever grateful.
